How can I change my radar settings?

There are two options for you to change your radar:

  1. Via the in-game Menu.

  2. Via the developer console.

Since a lot of players are really used to the console and it is arguably the quicker method, this article will focus on console commands.

What are the best settings?

Settings are always at least partially dependend on personal preference, but nevertheless there are some options that can provide a clear competitive edge and are therefore objectively superior to their opposite.

In this section all of the console commands regarding console settings will be listed and explained, so you can copy them.

cl_radar_scale

This command is arguably the most important one. It controls how zoomed in/out your radar is and therefore how much of the map you can see. The objectively best value for map awareness is cl_radar_scale 0.3.

But it is worth mentioning that a lot of competitive players prefer higher values, because they can more accurately pinpoint the location of enemies nearby, especially when standing in fading smokes.

cl_radar_always_centered

The default setting for this is 1 which means that the mini-map is always centered on your position. That can also deny you very important information about the rest of the map. So our recommendation is to use cl_radar_always_centered 0.

cl_hud_radar_icon_scale_min

This setting manipulates the size of the icons on your radar. If you want to see enemies and teammates clearly we recommend starting with cl_hud_radar_icon_scale_min 0.4 and adjusting it upwards as much as you like.

cl_radar_rotate

This one is purely based on preference. It decides if you radar rotates with your POV or if it always stays in the same direction. So you can use cl_radar_rotate 0 or cl_radar_rotate 1.

cl_radar_square_with_scoreboard

Last but not least you can decide if yout want your radar to get bigger and turn into a square map as soon as you open up your scoreboard. We recommend leaving it at default setting which is 1: cl_radar_square_with_scoreboard 1

The best settings for you to copy & paste

  • cl_radar_always_centered 0

  • cl_radar_scale 0.3

  • cl_radar_icon_scale_min 0.4 (adjusting it upwards step by step)

  • cl_radar_rotate 0

  • cl_radar_square_with_scoreboard 1
