If you are into CS2 skins, you'll most likely know about Doppler finishes already. But what do 'phases' actually mean in that context and why are there such big varieties in prices?

What are Phases in CS2?

Phases are groups of different finishes of certain CS2 skins.

In the case of Doppler Knives, they are determining the share of blue and red color on the skin itself. Some of these combinations are really rare and therefore more desirable and expensive. These combinations are random, but follow a certain pattern index so you can distinguish them easily. These indexes are grouped together into several categories, which we will explore in this article.

Since CS:GO was updated to CS2 on September 27, 2023, Doppler finishes have increased in popularity and overall flashiness by a lot. This has also led to a shift in popular phases of Doppler knives.

Doppler Phase 1

Phase 1

Phase 1 has completely changed since the update on CS2. Which has been the least popular pattern, as it was once only a deep dark mixture of black, purple, and blue. The updated version of it is now a solid option for any Doppler enjoyers with colors ranging from deep purple over blue all the way to pink.

Doppler Phase 2

Phase 2

This is the most popular phase for Doppler Knives. It is mostly a bright purple and pink mixture. The brightest pattern of a phase 2 Doppler is also called a "pink galaxy". This makes phase 2 a no-brainer for every pink loadout.

Doppler Phase 3

Phase 3

These consist of a mix of a lot of dark tones, combined with a bit of blue. Somehow this phase is not all that popular so it is a great way to get a hold of a Doppler skin without spending too much money on it. It is really similar to phase 4 but instead of bright blue flavor, it is dark blue.

Doppler Phase 4

Phase 4

Phase 4 is similar to phase 2 but instead of purple or pink, it contains a lot of blue. This phase also looks the best on low-wear knives, which makes it pricier. A few patterns also come pretty close to the looks of a Sapphire, depending on the lighting.

Doppler Sapphire

Sapphire

Speaking of pricier skins: This one is a legendary pattern. This is also known as a "gem" finish because it consists of one color. In the case of Sapphire Knives, it is all blue. They are really rare and therefore really expensive as well. They also look absolutely amazing ingame and make stunning collector's items.

Doppler Ruby

Ruby

This one is similar to the Sapphire, but it is all red. It is not quite as expensive as the Sapphire Knives, but definitely not cheap as well. So if you want a really rare knife and you prefer red over blue, you can even save some money without having to compromise on appearance!

Doppler Black Pearl

Blackpearl

This one is the rarest of all finishes. It is an all-black and purple version of the Doppler finish and although it is not as impressive ingame as the Sapphire or Ruby, it is the most desirable because of its rarity.

If you pair it with some purple gloves like the Driver Gloves Imperial Plaid or Sport Gloves Pandora's Box you get a stunning but also pricy combination of gloves and knife.
