New Operation Soon?

With the recent leaks that came out, there are a lot of hints that something big will happen to CS:GO in the near future. This article will cover everything based on the current hints.

New Operation Soon?

New Operation maybe?

There are several hints that a new CS:GO Operation could finally be right around the corner. According to the Twitter user "Gabe Follower" the CS:GO devs are forming skin collections for the maps Anubis and probably Tuscan as well. By the current looks they are not using exclusively created skins but rather picking up skins from the workshop for that. Apparently the Anubis collections theme is going to be "dusty gold" while the Tuscan collections theme is going to be "bluish ocean".

New skin collections are usually a pretty definite hint towards a new Operation. So there is a good chance that the new Operation will finally be released together with the upcoming Source 2 update.

These are all of the Operation release dates from the past:

Operation Logos
  • Operation Payback - April 25th, 2013

  • Operation Bravo - September 19th, 2013

  • Operation Phoenix - February 20th, 2014

  • Operation Breakout - July 1st, 2014

  • Operation Vanguard - November 11th, 2014

  • Operation Bloodhound - May 26th, 2015

  • Operation Wildfire - February 17th, 2016

  • Operation Hydra - May 23th, 2017

  • Operation Shattered Web - November 18th, 2019

  • Operation Broken Fang - December 3rd, 2020

  • Operation Riptide - September 21st, 2021

As you can see the latest Operation was released in late 2021 and with the exception of 2018 there has been at least one Operation per year from 2013 to 2021. The CS:GO communities demand for a new Operation is very present on social media and if the aforementioned hints really lead to one, this could be very beneficial for the game.

Source 2 soon?

But what about Source 2?

Last week we already covered the latest hints on a potential Source 2 release in the article CS:GO Source 2 soon?. There have been new developments in the meantime:

According to SteamDB Source 2 has been added to the Developer Pre-Release Branch of CS:GO.

Changelist

Also there has been an executable file added to the CS:GO configs.

cs2exe

This is a very strong hint that the Source 2 beta may be released in the next couple of days.

The exact changes of the upcoming update are still unclear. Former Counter-Strike pro and legend of the game PashaBiceps leaked some information in a recent interview. According to him there will be a new game of Counter-Strike when Source 2 comes out, that includes game mechanics like sliding and lying down on the ground. He claims that he could've played the game himself but was too busy to do so, but also that he knew people that already played the beta test of the new game and gave him the said information. These claims by Pasha are seen as a troll by the larger part of the CS:GO community because the mentioned mechanics would violate the games spirit to its core.

According to Gabe Follower the CS:GO devs have been spotted playing a beta test of CS:GO Source 2. Based on those observations a possible Source 2 map pool has been determined:

  • de_overpass_s2

  • de_shortdust_s2

  • de_lake_s2

  • de_inferno_s2

  • ar_shoots_s2

  • cs_italy_s2

  • de_cbble_s2

Especially the last map on this list could be very interesting. Since it has been moved to Reserve Map Pool on March 19th of 2019, Valve has not touched this map again. A comeback of this map in the new Source 2 version of the game could be very interesting for the game.
