Chicken
GuideChickens have always been part of Counter-Strike. Whether they're wandering around Inferno or unexpectedly crossing your path during a crucial round, these little birds have become an iconic part of the game. But what if you could have a chicken of your own?
With the September 2026 update, Valve introduced Pet Chickens to Counter-Strike 2. Players can now hatch, raise, name, and care for their very own chicken.
Unlike traditional CS2 skins, these chickens cannot be traded or sold. Instead, they bring something new to the game: a personal touch to your CS2 collection and an additional reason to come back every week.
What Are CS2 Pet Chickens?
CS2 Pet Chickens are cosmetic companions that you can raise from an egg into a fully grown chicken. They come in different breeds, colors, and individual patterns.
Currently, 34 adult chicken variants across three different breeds are known: Catalana, Polish, and Silkie.
Your chicken doesn't give you any competitive advantage. It won't improve your aim, affect your weapons, or change your performance in a match. Instead, it simply adds a little more personality to your Counter-Strike experience.
Unlike regular skins, however, your chicken needs attention. You'll have to feed it, watch it grow, and make sure it doesn't run away.
How to Get a Chicken in CS2

Everything starts with a Chicken Egg.
Players with Prime Status can receive a Chicken Egg as a potential reward in their Weekly Care Package, which becomes available after earning their first weekly rank-up.
If you choose the egg, it uses up both of your weekly reward selections. This means giving up the other items you could normally claim. Chicken Eggs are also not guaranteed to appear every week.
You can only own one Pet Chicken per account at a time.
Once selected, your egg appears in a nest next to your character in the main menu. After approximately one week, a small yellow chick hatches from it.
Your chicken then goes through four development stages:
Egg: The starting point of your chicken-raising journey.
Chick: A small yellow chick that you can name and take pictures of.
Pullet: Your growing chicken develops its breed-specific appearance and can accompany you into matches.
Hen: The fully grown version of your chicken, featuring its final colors and additional photo opportunities.
As your chicken grows, you can document its development in the HatchBook. This in-game photo album features different challenges, poses, and memories of your pet.
All 34 CS2 Chicken Skins and Variants
The adult chickens are divided into three different breeds. Each breed has its own distinctive appearance and selection of color variants.
Catalana – 13 Variants

Catalana chickens look the most similar to the classic Counter-Strike chickens players are already familiar with. Their traditional feather structure makes them instantly recognizable, while their colors range from natural brown and white tones to eye-catching combinations.
The 13 Catalana variants are:
Tan, Black & White Head, White, Yellow & Red, Light Blue & Red, Black with Red Head, Blue, Dark Orange, Blue & Light Orange, Orange with Blue Neck, Yellow-Red Gradient, Grey, and Black.
Whether you prefer a classic brown chicken or a striking blue-and-orange combination, Catalana offers the largest selection of currently catalogued variants.
Polish – 12 Variants

Polish chickens are particularly recognizable thanks to the distinctive feather crests on their heads. This gives them a noticeably different appearance compared to traditional Catalana chickens.
This breed also has plenty to offer when it comes to colors.
The 12 Polish variants are:
Brown, Black with White Head, White with Black Wing Tips, Brown with Black Wing Tips, White with Black Head, Blue, Green with Red Head, Green, Pink, Blue & Yellow, Orange, White & Blue, and Orange with Black Stripes.
From the vibrant Pink variant to the distinctive Orange with Black Stripes, Polish chickens feature some particularly unusual designs.
Silkie – 9 Variants

Silkie chickens are among the most unusual-looking pets in CS2.
Unlike traditional chicken breeds, they have particularly fluffy feathers and a rounded body shape, making them look almost like little plush toys.
The 9 Silkie variants are:
White, Splash, Blue with Red Beard, Leopard, Red, Red Beetle, Orange, Purple, and Aqua with Yellow.
Their unusual feather texture and eye-catching colors make Silkie chickens a particularly interesting addition to the pet system.
Can You Choose Your Chicken's Color?
No. Your chicken's breed and color variant are determined by the game.
In addition to the basic color variant, individual chickens can have subtle visual differences due to hidden pattern seeds. This means that even two chickens of the same breed and color might not look completely identical.
Valve has not officially published the drop probabilities for the different chicken variants.
Can You Trade or Sell CS2 Chickens?
No. All CS2 Pet Chickens are non-tradeable and cannot be sold on the Steam Community Market or third-party marketplaces.
The same restrictions apply to Chicken Eggs and Chicken Feed.
This makes chickens fundamentally different from traditional CS2 skins. You can't resell them for profit, trade them for other chickens, or track their market prices.
Instead, your chicken remains tied to your account and your personal gaming experience.
While it doesn't add any monetary trading value to your inventory, it brings something else: individuality and personality.
Why CS2 Chickens Give You a Reason to Come Back Every Week
What makes the new CS2 chickens special isn't just their appearance, but also the regular interaction they encourage.
Your pet needs Chicken Feed, which you can obtain through Weekly Care Packages.
This creates a simple routine: play CS2, earn your weekly rank-up, check your rewards, and take care of your chicken.
If your chicken runs out of food, it can leave you permanently. Even with proper care, your chicken won't stay forever. According to current community information, a well-fed chicken has an estimated lifespan of 140 days after hatching.
Once your chicken reaches the end of its lifespan, it's no longer available as an active pet. However, its photos and memories remain in your HatchBook, allowing you to look back on your time together.
Beyond feeding your chicken, you can give it a name, take pictures using different poses, and complete challenges in the HatchBook.
This introduces a new kind of progression to Counter-Strike that doesn't depend on your rank, your skill level, or the market value of your skins.
Instead, it's about investing time in something you've raised yourself.
Final Thoughts: More Personality for Your CS2 Inventory
CS2 chickens probably won't become the next big trading trend, and that's exactly what makes them interesting.
With 34 currently catalogued color variants, three different breeds, and a system built around raising and caring for your pet, chickens introduce a new form of personalization to Counter-Strike 2.
Even though chickens aren't tradeable Steam inventory items, they can still give your collection and CS2 profile a unique, personal touch.
While you're actively playing CS2 and collecting skins, you're also taking care of your own chicken by earning Chicken Feed through Weekly Care Packages and playing to obtain new eggs whenever you're ready to raise another companion.
But your feathered friend won't stay forever. According to community information, a chicken has an estimated lifespan of 140 days after hatching. If it runs out of food, it may leave even earlier.
What remains are the memories you've made together. Through your HatchBook, you can continue looking at your chicken's photos and remember watching it grow.
And maybe that's one more reason to launch CS2 again when your next Weekly Care Package becomes available.
Because your chicken is already waiting for you.
